Venezuela restores Colombia diplomatic ties

Venezuela will immediately restore normal diplomatic relations with Colombia, the government said on Sunday, after last week's resolution of a regional dispute that had raised the specter of war.
The foreign ministry said in a statement that Venezuela would send its diplomats back to Bogota immediately and was ready to receive Colombian diplomats 'as soon as possible.'

  1. Here's the Big Mistake, Hugo -- most usually made by reformists, of course, because their whole logic of Reality is based on the false theory that everything can be successfully negotiated, given sufficient will (on both sides): you let these scum off the hook without [much of a] cost to them.

Reason does not work with people who intend to win by force -- i.e. kill you or enslave you, etc. At best, you are only buying time when you negotiate with them. But when you let them off the hook -- well, they've won something from you, see? They don't appreciate your gracious, generous concession: they see it as weakness and foolishness. They certainly would not reciprocate if the shoe was on the other foot.

And so you've only encouraged them to do exactly the same -- or worse -- in future. It was the right thing to send the tanks to the border and break relations, etc. It was the wrong thing to immediately remove them again, and re-establish relations, based on "gee. we're sorry. what were we thinking? We'll never do that again..."

You've been suckered, Hugo -- because you care. Because you want to do the right thing. So, oddly enuff -- you did the exact opposite. Because you are following in effect a reformist path to socialism. And leading you are a scurvy bunch of reformist pied pipers... So really, that's the garden path -- to social-democracy -- you're actually following, Hugo; that is: the path to capitalist restoration.
