CChairman of the IAPA's Committee on Freedom of the Press ''We are very worried about Globovisión''

''We are very worried about Globovisión,'' says Gonzalo Marroquín, editor of Guatemala's daily Prensa Libre and chairman of the IAPA's Committee on Freedom of the Press. ``We are concerned because the Venezuelan government has been consistent in carrying out each and every one of his threats against the press.'' In a telephone interview hours before his departure to Caracas, Marroquín told me that Chávez had consistently threatened not to renew the license of RCTV unless it ceased criticizing the government. He finally pulled the plug on that network last year. ''In the case of Globovisión, we are seeing a steady increase in government accusations, harassment and threats of closing it down,'' Marroquín said. ``We fear that the government may take away from the Venezuelan people another means of freedom of expression anytime.''
