A prison riot between rival gangs left nine inmates dead and 20 more wounded, said Venezuelan media. The fighting began when gunfire broke out in the San Fernando de Apure jail in central Venezuela. The uprising was controlled with the help of more than 100 soldiers and police agents.

Of course, the solution to crime is not to be found with police methods or building more prisons, etc. Crime will be solved by government policy of full employment and free education, etc. -- and by handing over control of the streets to the consejos. Only organized crime at the higher levels still has to be dealt with by an organized, bureaucratic police apparatus. For now. But that has to be socialist too.
