Here we have the usual insane anarchy and chaos of the capitalist market -- and the usual attempt to deflect the blame for the latest balls-up onto socialist forces and "the government". How dare these meddlers interfere with the capitalists' ability to turn a profit at everyone else's expense! No food then, for you!
ReplyDeleteFact is, however, that any attempt to get out from under this ridiculous killer system will invariably lead to even more upset in the short-term -- but that is not any reason not to continue-on thru and rationalize production of that most strategic of commodities: food.
Food sovereignty starts with nationalizing the speculators and the hoarders inside the country, for sure; but it also means developing a planned, rational import substitution régime amongst all the ALBA countries and others, who want to join together in a market geared fundamentally to feeding people, rather than feeding machines. The Revolution must make its highest priority the growing of as much food as possible -- and corollary to that, seeing that all the rest comes from their ALBA and other allies. The ALBA countries must free themselves from imperialist "agribusiness": not only because soverignty demands it, but also because in the future class-struggle across the entire planet, food will be a weapon of choice for imperialism -- and it is the responsibility of the socialist countries to see to it that they can provide as much of an alternate source of food as possible for the world's masses.
