We got to talking about Venezuela ... and my seat companion started to spout off the usual mis-statements about Chavez...
But what really brought out the depth of the propaganda was his statement that
you cannot buy milk in Venezuela... That Chavez has screwed things up to the
point where "one cannot buy a gallon of milk!"
At this point I had to control myself and not giggle ... as I explained that:
* Only in the U.S. and Canada does one buy fresh milk ... that the rest of
the world uses either powdered milk or high temp non-refrigerated ... or both
... even in big dairy countries such as The Netherlands or Denmark...* Plus .... nowhere in the world does one buy milk by the gallon ... except
in the U.S. That the rest of the world is on the metric system ... and ...
as usual ... the U.S. is out-of-step with the rest of the world...
So, of course, one would not be able to purchase a gallon of fresh milk in Venezuela ... just powdered milk to be reconstituted or high temp non-refrigerated milk in ½ or 1 liter cartons...
In my two years in Venezuela, I never saw fresh milk let alone any liquid sold by the gallon....
To say the least, that shut him up ... and he sat there with a puzzled look on his face for the rest of the flight...
Sorry to correct you, but you can actually buy fresh milk everywhere in Europe. Even without the strange additives it comes with in the US.
