Plan Colombia: The Real Destabilizing Force in South America

In surveying United States press coverage of the recent tensions between Colombia, Ecuador, and Venezuela one might come to the conclusion that Colombia has become the victim of the wrath of its' evil next door neighbor, Hugo Chávez. Once again, the media spin machine has been turned against Venezuela, bypassing a contextual analysis of the situation for a simplistic story line. With headlines such as 'Chávez Picks a New Fight' (Business Week, March 4) the story perpetuates the United States government's claims that Venezuela is a destabilizing force in the region while ignoring the alarming actions perpetrated by the Colombian government.

  1. Understand that the power of the U.S. régime to wreak havok on the planet issues largely from it position as the financial center of the Known Universe -- a position it took over from the "City of London" a few decades back. But the thing for us to keep in mind is that the U.S. has been bankrupt for decades -- and can manage to keep up the charade of power only because of this central financial position. And the fact is -- it's been digging itself a deep, deep economic hole these past decades. The center can no longer hold.

And so the logic is: the more the rest of the planet refuses to play the U.S. régime's funny money game -- and everything that issues from that, from military aggression to economic sabotage -- the sooner we will break the power of this obscene "democratic" empire, and any other pretenders.
