Venezuela detains man wanted by US on drug trafficking charges

A man wanted in the United States on drug trafficking charges has been detained by Venezuelan authorities, his lawyer said Sunday, insisting his client is innocent. The U.S. government has a reward of up to US$5 million (€3.2 million) out for the arrest of Hermagoras Gonzalez Polanco, and lawyer Freddy Ferrer told the Venezuelan TV station Globovision his client was detained Saturday morning. The lawyer called it 'an illegal and illegitimate detention' carried out by a counter-drug squad at a ranch south of Lake Maracaibo in western Venezuela.
