Caracas, Mar 17 (Prensa Latina) Venezuela can meet the communication challenge to wage a battle in the field of ideas, because it has the necessary tools and talents, Communication and Information Minister Andres Izarra said.
Interviewed by a local TV talk show, Izarra recalled that more communication awareness is needed in that field, "and that is achieved with constancy and with policies."
According to the minister, there are still deficiencies in the means that are in the hands of the State, so a system to create profiles and optimize the process was designed when the potential audience was identified. In that direction, Venezolana de Television (VTV) is a news channel, VIVE is a community channel, TVES broadcasts entertainment programs and TELESUR is an integration channel.
Izarra pointed out that information is a tool and some people do not want to share it, "they don't want to broadcast it, they want to fence it in for their own interests and it happens at all levels of the government apparatus."
Moreover, in order to make the official propaganda digestible, creativity must be used, with happy and dynamic concepts, commonly used by everyone, with the goal of presenting the achievements of the revolutionary process, he explained.
Izarra said that Washington's recent statements about Venezuela show that the US government is "in a phase of desperation" and is trying to create "a new file" against the country "as a promoter of terrorism." In the light of that, the way to meet this US charge from the communicational viewpoint is to promote President Hugo Chavez's condition as a promoter of peace, he said.

ReplyDeleteReally? The bolivarian government doesn't even have the apparent competence to fund the likes of VHeadline or Aporrea -- or to understand why it even should. And for that matter, the cuban government has not been getting very far with Fidel Castro's strategic "battle of ideas" against capitalist imperialist world hegemony either... How far does socialist class struggle advance then, when the object of those already ensconced in state power in the 'socialist' bureaucracy, becomes instead the push for such abstract goals -- that is, for very concrete, immediate and narrow objectives and considerations not being explicitly or overtly expressed -- as "peace" of a wholly bourgeois and nationalist nature..?
Everywhere in the world, the Left today does NOT in fact even play in the same league as the [rather stupid] Rightists, when it comes to any 'battle of ideas' or ideologies -- which would be the Left's to lose, frankly, if it would only play in earnest. However, the problem here is that putting your money where your mouth is is another thing again; and the praxis of developing a revolution out of the thoughts, words and deeds of its practitioners is a frightening concept indeed to those who wish to maintain a tight leash on the thoughts and deeds of the people they 'represent' (meaning themselves...)
So by all means: let us have the Mother of all Battles of Ideas -- both inside AND outside the Left. ONLY the Right could lose by an ongoing, unfolding revelation of the truth about our world and our Reality.
