Uruguay, Venezuela to launch communications satellite

The 250-million-U.S.-dollar satellite, which is designed for 15 years of service life, will boost both nations' communications and allow them to lower the cost of using the broadband Internet, LeonLev, president of the regulation unit told media. 'It (the satellite) will be jointly used by Uruguay and Venezuela for peaceful ends,' Lev said, adding that 'Uruguay is on the verge of a fundamentally important event.'

  1. The latin american countries can't pour enough resources into basic research and high teknology. It's worth going into hock over, even. You can only build so many roads, bridges and buildings. Investing in people and their future is everything.

And investing in the stock market and bonds and pure speculation -- i.e. in the Rich and their toys -- is the road to quick and certain ruin.
