Colombia's chief of police, Oscar Naranjo has presented evidence gleaned from Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia FARC computers supposedly demonstrating Venezuelan government support for the Colombian rebels. According to Naranjo, they have a letter showing an agreement by Chavez to hand over $300 million to the organization. There is another document detailing meetings with Venezuelan Interior & Justice (MIT) Minister Ramon Rodriguez Chacin and one where the FARC gave 1 million pesos to Chavez when the latter was imprisoned in the 90s. Without going into further detail, Naranjo also mentioned the handing over of 50 kg of uranium. Although he did not mention the source of the uranium, he did hint that a third country was involved.
The Venezuelan opposition has reacted to the crisis, accusing the President Chavez of treason for his reaction to the death of Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) leader, Raul Reyes. Accompanied by representatives of the main opposition parties, Zulia State Governor, Manuel Rosales lashed out at the government, complaining that it has placed the people of Venezuela on a war footing by defending the positions of the Colombian guerrilla and terrorism. The government has been silent over the years as Colombian "parliamentarians, politicians, mayors and state governors were killed by narco-trafficking and terrorist guerrilla movements," not to forget the "killings of Venezuelan military and other professionals." The opposition takes particular exception to the President's public minute of silence for the killing of Reyes while ignoring Venezuelan citizens killed in an air crash in Merida a week ago. The opposition, Rosales says, criticizes Colombia's incursion into Ecuador and any violation of the national territory but defends Colombia's right to defend its sovereignty and security. Whether the last statement means that the opposition supports incursions of the Colombian army into Venezuela to attack Colombian guerrilla units was not clarified during the press conference. The opposition calls on the Organization of American States (OAS) for an intermediate intervention to solve such conflicts democratically, pacifically and in a civilized manner.
United Socialist Party of Venezuela (USB) vice president, General (ret.) Alberto Muller Rojas says the attitude assumed by the Colombian government in invading Ecuadorian territory to kill Raul Reyes is irrational. Colombia has thrown aside norms of coexistence, the General argues, and has acted with absolute primitivism. The Colombian government has adopted the US military's norm of preventive warfare initiated after 9/11. The General also accuses Colombia of basing its accusations against President Chavez on lies, stating that there is no real consistency in the accusations.

All this proving once more there's nothing the Right won't stoop to. And that's why reformism is a crock of shit: because the Right will never allow real change. Never. And of course, reformists confuse a tactical retreat by the Right for real change. How pathetic. And deadly.
ReplyDeleteAnd again: uranium?? They should have stopped when they were "ahead" with the usual accusations...
