Spanish Foreign Minister Miguel Angel Moratinos scheduled to arrive in Caracas on first stage of trip that will also take him to Colombia

Caracas Daily Journal (Jeremy Morgan): Spanish Foreign Minister Miguel Angel Moratinos is scheduled to arrive in Caracas today on the first stage of a trip that will also take him on to Colombia.

An official statement issued by his ministry on Monday said his agenda included meetings with his counterparts, Nicolas Maduro of Venezuela and Fernando Araujo of Colombia, today and on Wednesday, respectively.

The context of both meetings is expected to be the rumpus between Caracas and Bogota over the computer files that Colombia claims belonged to Raul Reyes, the deputy commander of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) who was killed in a military attack on March 1.
According to media reports quoting the files, these are said to indicate that a relationship existed between President Hugo Chavez and the high command at the FARC. He has denied this, insisting any contacts made with the FARC were connected with efforts to get the guerrillas to release hostages. More recently, he told them to do so without pre-conditions.
