Spain arrests 38 for using airport facilities to smuggle cocaine

Spain's Interior Ministry says police have arrested 38 people suspected of using airport facilities to smuggle cocaine for sale at a Madrid bar. The bar is owned by a policeman and his wife, the ministry says. The arrests come after an eight-month investigation in collaboration with Peru and Belgium, including a unit embedded at Madrid's Barajas airport. One suspect has arrest warrants outstanding for intended murder and firearms offenses the ministry says. The ministry says nine of the suspects worked in baggage handling and were arrested June 11 after trying to divert a parcel containing cocaine that had arrived from Venezuela.
