Chevron is aware of the potencial talents every Venezuelan community has in their children

Caracas Daily Journal (Virginia Casulo): Children are the future of a country and Chevron is aware of the potencial talents every community has in their children.
That is why they always invest in them. Recently the Project "Learning Centers", sponsored by Chevron and led by the Discovery Channel Global Education Partnership foundation was successfully completed after benefiting more than 11,000 children and 511 teachers of a total of 15 schools located in Caracas, Zulia and Anzoategui. Part of the agenda was a week for exchanging experiences among a group of teachers, parents and principals of the participating schools.

The "Learning Centers" are an initiative that Chevron has been sponsoring since 2005 with the purpose of bringing to the schools all the topics in an entertaining way that also inspires the community to develop projects to benefit them all. The tool: using videos as teaching material. Each school with a "Learning Center" also received a three year training for teachers and technical support on how to use the audiovisual tools efficiently in the classroom and as a community resource especially in low re-source schools.

During the last two weeks, 5 of the schools of Caracas, and 4 of the schools of Zulia submitted products and materials developed from one project per school, which was the result of team- work among teachers, students and their parents or representatives. To that respect, each school identified and looked for solutions to specific problems of their communities, from solving the malnutrition or the garbage problem up to creating a parent encounter network with the purpose of relating the parents to the educational process.

The solutions were presented through a structured project that includes alliances with governmental and non-governmental entities as well as participants of different sectors of the community. In the near future, 6 schools from Anzoategui State will submit their results.Chevron has focused in optimizing the access to a good quality education by means of improving the infrastructure and capacitation of teachers. This initiative is a great example of the special interest the private companies have in Venezuela.
