Colombia's President Alvaro Uribe most popular president of the Americas

Colombian President Álvaro Uribe is the Americas’ most popular president, followed by Mexican President Felipe Calderón, a research by Consulta Mitofsky shows. President of Paraguay, Nicanor Duarte, is the least popular. The approval ratings from the different countries were taken on different times. The approval rating of the conservative Uribe was measured in March, just after Colombia had killed FARC-commander Raúl Reyes, tensions with neighbors Ecuador and Venezuela were at its highest and Uribe’s popularity was peaking. The popularity of Ecuadorean President Rafael Correa has dropped since Colombia’s cross-border attack. In March, around the time Uribe’s popularity was measured, the leftist president had the approval of 62 percent of the Ecuadorean population. In June only 52 percent of the popular support was left. Venezuela’s President Hugo Chávez’ popularity is going downwards. A Venezuelan poll in January granted the populist president an approval rating of 61 percent. By April only 54 percent of the Venezuelans approved his policies.
