Venezuela has so far confiscated 27 tons of drugs and destroyed 190 illegal runways in 2008, as part of the struggle against drug traffickers who try to use the country as a bridge to transfer illegal substances. According to recent reports from the National Anti-drug Office, nearly 16,01 tons of cocaine, 10,88 marihuana and others like crack and cocaine base have been confiscated until June 23. The plan against illegal runways has also destroyed 157 in the state of Apure, 16 in Falcon, and 17 in Anzoategui and Monagas, in three operations carried out this year. Despite being the only Andean country that does not cultivate drug, Venezuela is being used to take those substances out of Colombia. The inexistence of illegal cultivations have been certified with the Sierra XX-2008 operation in the border with Colombia that included satellite photos, inspections, over-flights, patrolling and the manual destruction of detected plants. The aim is to take drugs to United States and Europe, the largest market for illegal drugs worldwide and forces of that phenomenon.
