The airplane was cleared to perform the VOR/DME ILS/DME 18 approach. Current assumption in Ecuador is, that the crew did not perform the VOR pattern as required, needing a larger turn radius and thus shifting the 'downwind descend leg' (heading 004 degrees) to the west and flying beyond the secured area within 11nm DME/LTV. The position of the wreckage is now reported as 0°40'23.11'S 78°44'3.5' at an altitude of approximately 13100 feet.
