VHeadline Venezuela News reports: Accion Democratica (AD) regional deputy secretary general, Freddy Valera is somewhat more than cynical when he comments United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) candidate for Bolivar State Governor, Francosco Rangel Gomez' bid to be re-elected to the top job for another mandate. He says "just look at how insecurity has spread all over the state of Bolivar ... and it is Rangel Gomez' fault, all of it!"

With the official commencement of election campaign listed for today, Valera notes that campaigning is more than unusually uneven since the government's PSUV has unlimited access to funding direct from the national treasury ... something that has been denied other parties in Venezuela's political spectrum.

"It is an uneven battle ... but PSUV's demand that all its members should contribute one day's salary to the party has been a damp squib ... it's retrograde to blackmail people into giving up part of their wages when their only reason to be in the government party is to feel secure in their jobs. Many PSUV members joined only because they were pressured into it ... to NOT have joined would have sent a clear signal to their government employers that they do not sympathize with Chavez or his policies ... they are caught in a Catch 22 situation and have been forced to contribute to a cause in which they do not believe!"

Valera doubts that even with this form of 'workplace extortion' the PSUV will have great difficulty in raising the funds it needs from legitimate sources ... "we must ask where the PSUV resources are coming from ... the leadership of the PSUV organization can never justify their expenditures ... nobody is saying where the money is coming from, but everyone knows that it comes from the public purse."

According to AD regional general secretary public money is being used to finance the PSUV election campaign ... "that's money that we need to invest in hospitals, schools and the asphalting the streets and avenues ... the misuse of public resources for propaganda purposes is the specialty of the current regional president, Francisco Rangel Gomez, who aspires to continue in power!"

"The best illustration of Rangel Gomez' character (or lack of it!) is that he has the audacity to seek reelection ... the very same man who is responsible for one of the most nefarious administrations the State of Bolivar has ever had ... it's just the same situation with former Venezuelan Guayana Corporation (CVG) president, Clemente Scotto Dominguez, who is seeking re-election as Mayor of Caroni for four more years!"

"Both Rangel Gomez and Scotto Dominguez should have the decency to base their aspirations on having had successful management before they dare to seek re-election," Valero says adding that an assessment of both officials' governance is "not becoming!" ... "insecurity has overwhelmed Bolivar State as a direct consequence of the corruption and malfeasance of both the Governor and the Mayor ... the health sector is in disarray and local hospitals are at their worst point in history ... over the past four years there has been no significant work done."

"As far as roads and education ... the main roads and highways are a disaster and 70% of school toilets do not function properly ... voters must be critical when it comes to exercising their rights on November 23 ... we need alternatives and NOT four more years of failure."
