VHeadline Venezuela News reports: Gold miners in Venezuela's southeastern region of Guayana have appealed to Basic Industries & Mining (Mibam) Minister Rodolfo Sanz to re-open and develop a 43 hectare "free zone" in the Matanzas industrial park at Punta de Cuchillo in response to an application by unemployed workers who have been without jobs (or income) for more than a month.
While the designated "free zone" is currently a 150-meters diameter lagoon of mud after recent torrential rains, they say that because of the inability of the Venezuelan Guayana Corporation (CVG) to 'get its act together' on the project, conditions are getting worse by the day and regional authorities MUST do something about it.
Construction Workers' union coordinator Jacinto Manzano says there is NO justification that the government should neglect such a large and important project since the Guayana free zone represents one of the most significant important works in recent years ... "we want to see work begun since it is our hope that it will be successful and help economic development in the Guayana region."
The project has been planned in two stages, first with the clearing of 224 hectares of industrial land from a brick factory at the gates to a an additional dock facility at Punta Cuchillo and a series of buildings and the old Lagovan jetty.
