Without convincing explanation, CVG and Mibam decided no longer to participate at Expo III Americas Bolivar

VHeadline Venezuela News reports:
Senen Torrealba, president of the Bolivar State Chamber of Commerce & Industry (Fedecamaras), says he has no explanation for why the state-owned heavy industries conglomerate, the Venezuelan Guayana Corporation (CVG) has withdrawn the participation of its subsidiaries from a major Expo III Americas Bolivar 2008 event but insists that the Guayana regional development agency (the CVG's raison d'etre) must be placed in the hands of the regional government since it is fully identified with Guyana.

In a ceremony celebrating the inauguration of Expo III, presided over by former CVG president, now State Governor, Francisco Rangel Gomez, the local newspaper, Nueva Prensa de Guayana reports that organizing committee president, Fedecamaras' Senen Torrealba has asked the National Executive to deem the CVG to be a unit of the regional State government and to redirect its core businesses to overall regional planning.

Torrealba's statement came after the CVG and the Ministry of Basic Industries & Mining (Mibam) withdrew unexpectedly from Expo III Americas Bolivar 2008 and, in doing so, denied the participation of its subsidiaries in the important event. Torrealba says "Expo Americas has always sought the integration of public and private productive sectors and that's why we're surprised that the CVG and Mibam have decided NO longer to participate, without any convincing explanation ... the decision only demonstrates the regretful way in which the corporation being managed and supervised."

The National Executive, the Vice Presidency of the Republic and the Bolivar State Governor have always supported the entrepreneurial spirit ... the Expo attempts to integrate public and private sectors for the productive development of the region ... public institutions such as governors, mayors, Mibam, CVG and Bancoex have always taken space at the Expo Americas to encourage industry in the region.

In response, Governor Francisco Rangel Gomez immediately responded that the CVG is an institution of the national government and has always provide support to initiatives that promote the development of the Guyana region. He does not know the reasons for the withdrawal of CVG and its subsidiaries but feels sure that there is a logical explanation and called on the employers' organization to join with the public sector and the government to continue to promote these initiatives. "Guyana has become the country's non-oil alternative that allows us to develop the full potential that this region has ... we are confident that Guayana will continue to offer all its wealth for the welfare of the nation."
  • Celebrating the opening of Expo III Americas, Rangel Gomez presented awards to a number of regional personalities, recognizing the work of Comunicacional RG's Ruben Gamarra, who has had a successful track record in the field of communications, construction and real estate. Odebrecht president, Usendo Acevedo, also received an award.
The event will be open to the public from tomorrow, September 19, at the Intercontinental Guayana Hotel with five programmed working sessions for investment and business at which topics such as spare parts and replacements will be discussed, along with housing and infrastructure development, specialist energy and banking business, plus information on the implementation of projects in science and technology and banking and public financing. The event focuses on boosting a grand productive alliance proposed by the National Government announced during the "Reimpulso Productive: Investment Venezuela" conference in Caracas last June, when Senen Torrealba had had an opportunity to talk with President Chavez.
