Sanz declared persona non grata at Sidor; unions will keep up the blockade at CVG HQ as long as it takes

VHeadline Venezuela News reports: Venezuelan Guayana Corporation (CVG) steel workers at the newly-nationalized Siderurgica del Orinoco (SIDOR) steel mills in southeastern Bolivar State are insisting that they MUST deal directly with the President of the Republic, Hugo Chavez Frias and reject further dialogue with CVG president & CEO, Basic Industries & Mining (Mibam) Minister Rodolfo Sanz.

After three weeks of protests at CVG headquarters, the steel workers unions have decided to close the gates and paralyze traffic to and from the mills to reinforce their demands that the President should live up to earlier promises to the labor force of an equity stake in Sidor, among other complaints.

CVG-Sidor union treasurer Marcos Munoz says President Chavez needs to give them "five minutes of your time" to address the issue directly, since they claim that the President is not being made aware of what is happening after two years of struggle only to see the issue passed over by a string of Mibam officials and the Labor Inspectorate (Minpptrass) ... "meanwhile, sixty people have died and the waiting continues!"

"We want Chavez to know that Minister Rodolfo Sanz he is lying about our case and we urge the President to review the facts since Sanz is hiding from him what is wrong!"

Munoz points out that on two occasions, during his weekly TV spectacular 'Alo Presidente', Chavez has urged ministers to explain the situation: "we believe they have not done anything about it because Chavez has not received any notification in this regard. The ministers do not date to show their faces and Sanz is already declared persona non grata at Sidor for lack of respect. We will keep up the blockade as long as it takes until we get to meet Chavez himself."
