College hosts talk on Chávez

An expert on South American politics will talk Monday at Gettysburg College.
The 6:30 p.m. talk, 'The Rise and Rule of Hugo Chávez and the Bolivian Movement,' will take place in McCreary Hall's Bowen Auditorium located off Constitution Avenue. The talk will feature Margarita Lopez Maya, a professor at the Center for Development Studies at the Central University of Venezuela. Lopez has published extensively on 20th-century labor movements and popular protest in Venezuela as well as on new political currents during the presidency of Hugo Chávez. She conducts research as a Woodrow Wilson Center Fellow in Washington, D.C. Lopez has been a visiting scholar at Johns Hopkins University, Columbia University, Oxford University and New School for Social Research. She has been featured on National Public Radio's 'All Things Considered.'
