Velasquez says Basic Industries & Mining (Mibam) Minister Rodolfo Sanz must honor what he is constitutionally sworn to accomplish!

VHeadline Venezuela News reports: La Causa R candidate for the governorship of southeastern Bolivar State, Andres Velasquez has visited the small mining community of Upata in the southern Guayana region of Venezuela and says that with a little over a month to the November 23 local and regional elections he is sure of being able to defeat incumbent Governor Francisco Rangel Gomez who he describes as having been a total disaster for the region. Supporting the Independent Regional Movement candidacy of Rafael Rodriguez as Mayor of Piar, Velasquez said his is the best option to get rid of Francisco Rangel Gomez.

Quoted in regional newspapers. Velasquez says "During my campaign work, I have felt how people want me, Andres Velasquez, and have decided to support me because the best option for the region is to restore democratic values and to ensure that the benefits go to the people of the State ... we want equality in every municipality and we must receive the resources, regardless of political color for the benefit of the neediest!"

Velasquez was highlighting the fact that a majority of regional government funding goes specifically to those in support of the President's new United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) which is seen, increasingly, as a threat to multi-polar grassroots democracy!

The Causa R leader says thar the citizens of Bolivar State muct act decisively with their votes to overcome corruption in the current Rangel Gomez administration and to make it clear to central government in Caracas that they are not prepared to be dragged down by any other PSUV candidate. "I'm doing my work in the neighborhoods without wasting money ... no big advertisements, but with a heart that believes we must continue the struggle for progress."

For his part, Velasquez thanked Mayoral-candidate Rafael Rodriguez for his support, recalling how, in previous gubernatorial elections he had backed Rojas Suarez, but now believes there is a broad advantage in recent polls to throw his lot in with Velasquez' "winning formula." Speaking of the existing state of chaos in Bolivar State, which he directly attributes to Rangel Gomez' corruption and mismanagement of State affairs, Velasquez condemned last weekend's violence in El Dorado where pro-Chavez supporters had fired on members of the public after hundreds gathered for a very confused Rangel Gomez' election giveaway of televisions and washing machines. "Basically he (Rangel Gomez) took a load of household appliances to the locality in a blatant attempt to buy votes ... but this sort of corruption does not work with the people."

As regards the latest demonstrations and union strikes at CVG headquarters in Puerto Ordaz, Velasquez has caleld on Basic Industries & Mining (Mibam) Minister, Rodolfo Sanz (who is also the corporate president of the Venezuelan Guayana Corporation-CVG) to "get off his butt" and respond to workers demands that he (Sanz) should honor signed contracts with the labor force ... "Let him show his face and meet the workers ... they have promised they will enter into dialogue with him towards a rational resolution ... they helped him when he re-nationalized Siderurgical del Orinoco (Sidor). Now that that's done, he must do his bit and honor what he is constitutionally sworn to accomplish!"
