Mining unions reach amicable accord at the La Camorra and Isidora gold mines in southeastern Venezuela!

VHeadline Venezuela News reports: National Mining and Ministry of Labor officials have reached signed agreement with unionized miners at the La Camorra and Isidora gold mines in southeastern Venezuela to end a conflict which began before USA-Idaho-based Hecla withdrew from Venezuela some months ago, turning over the mines to the Russian Agapov Group's Rusoro Mining in a newly-constructed 50/50 "socialist" partnership with the Venezuelan government.

The unions have settled terms and conditions on residual claims of harassment and human rights violation initiated earlier this year.

It was because of the implacable situation between Hecla and its employees that administration if the mine was taken over by the Venezuelan State, via its National Mining organization, to enter into a further agreement Agapov's Rusoro. Both sides admit that there were "some rough edges to iron out," but a deal was finally signed Wednesday to award a 15 percent pay increase and an addition of Bs.F 14-20 to worker's ordinary food bonuses as well as a further Bs.F 2 billion to the employees' social welfare fund, and other benefits.

The deal, signed officially with trade union representatives at the former Hecla HQ in Puerto Ordaz, will certainly make life a little easier for workers at La Camorra in El Dorado and Isidora at El Callao, bringing closure to what's described as a bitter chapter in a long struggle to achieve basic employment rights.

Quoted in today's editions of the regional newspaper Correo del Caroni, the general secretary of the Intracallao union, Edwar Lopez said "we've reached agreement for an immediate 15% pay increase and Bs.F 14 to 20 to be paid from November 5 ... what we also see is a coordinated payment Bs.F 2 billion to bring social welfare benefits and other labor liabilities up to standard so that we have no more problems."
"We are working with the Labor Inspectorate in Guasipati to clarify a few additional points and we have achieved a harmonious relationship between the new company and the work force ... as a trade union organization are trying to facilitate as much as we can but we must remember that they (the employers) haveone a position and we have another, and that's the way it will always be. But the Labor Inspectorate is willing to work hand in hand with us towards equitable solutions, and we have to thank Inspector Jose Rodolfo Devere for his support."

Union lawyers Jose Luis Graff and Atilio Tapia say that the negotiations process with the new employer (Rusoro) has been without complications ... they (the unions) had expected a salary increase of 60% but are taking the current offer of 15% as an intermediary step towards full recognition.
