CVG-Bauxilum workers into second day of sit-in at CVG HQ after Mibam Minister Rodolfo Sanz was a "no show" at yesterday's meeting!

VHeadline Venezuela News reports:
Striking Venezuelan Guayana Corporation (CVG) and CVG-Bauxilum workers are into a second day of their sit-in occupation of CVG HQ demanding Basic Industries & Mining (Mibam) Minister's immediate attention to long-standing problems within the state-owned industrial conglomerate of which Rodolfo Sanz is also corporate president & CEO.

The presence of Minister Sanz had been requested at a 11.00 a.m., Thursday general meeting of affected trade unions as they stepped up threatened strike action from last Monday ... however, Sanz was a "no show" in violation of a "truce" ahead of threatened strike action to enforce their demands for a resolution to some Bs. F 35 billion (approximately US$17.5 billion) in unpaid labor liabilities dating back two years.

The unions insist that Sanz must address the fulfillment of a range of promises made in recent months.

CVG workers had been ready to start a national strike on Monday but agreed to a truce when Mibam Minisher Sanz pledged himself to meet yesterday. Union leaders met late Thursday in Ciudad Bolivar and for talks and a state of labor close-down has been call at all CVG subsidiary companies from today.

The Sunep-CVG union says that Sanz is reneging on its workforce and insists that the union will NOT accept threats from management. Meanwhile, Sanz' representative, Esther Gouttier, has told them that Sanz has unilaterally re-scheduled yesterday's meeting for today at 11.00 a.m. and assures that the Minister will attend. Sunep-CVG has responded saying "we will attend the meeting ... but it has now escalated to strike negotiations and we have to reach an agreement otherwise the strike will continue ... we have tried all peaceful means to achieve a resolution but we were unable. We at Sunep-CVG want to find solutions so that we may resume work."

As regards the situation at aluminum processing CVG-Bauxilum, striking workers, who downed tools none days ago, are meeting with Sunep-CVG officials at CVG headquarters today in the absence of any satisfactory proposal from management on the payment of labor liabilities and technology investments. At the last meeting, on Wednesday evening, 'interim' CVG-Bauxilum president, Alfredo Arcila refused to budge from a last-week offer of Bs.F 80 million ($40 million) to be paid in three installments before the end of October. The unions have rejected the offer and hold to their position on payment of the full $17.5 billion.

Meanwhile Bolivar State Governor, Francisco Rangel Gomez has met with a union delegation and has agreed to ask President Hugo Chavez Frias to intervene ... the news came as a PArliamentary Commission for Social Development headed by Oscar Figuera and Victor Lopez arrived in Ciudad Guayana to investigate the situation at CVG-Bauxilum with members of the Bolivar State Assembly.

Minister Sanz is also very much in demand by CVG-Sidor workers who claim that the government is reneging on a promised equity stake which was promised by central government in the wake of the nationalization of the giant steelworks, Siderurgical del Orinoco (Sidor) by the Chavez government earlier this year. They too are pressing for "a prompt response" from Minister Sanz.
