The Port of Corpus Christi entered into an agreement with European manufacturer and distributor Saint-Gobain Norpro to create a dedicated monthly shipping service between the port and Venezuela. Saint-Gobain will utilize 50 percent of the port’s No. 9 warehouse once a month to bring in 5,000 tons of super-sacked cargo. Saint-Gobain will be using about 50,000 square feet of space. The ship will carry ceramic items, which will be distributed further by truck on a monthly basis throughout Texas. “We are very pleased to establish this new two-way service to Latin America which is the result of a prior trade mission to Venezuela and our diligent efforts over the years to promote the concept of such a service,” says Port of Corpus Christi Chairman Ruben Bonilla. Southbound cargo would sail from Corpus Christi to Puerto Cabello, Guanta and Puerto Ordaz in Venezuela. Saint-Gobain Norpro is owned by Paris-based Saint-Gobain, a global manufacturer and distributor of materials such as bottles, glass, glass fiber, ceramics, home insulation and plastics.
