Dutch navy seizes 4,200 kilograms of cocaine

The Dutch navy has seized 4,200 kilograms (9,260 pounds) of cocaine on a freight ship in the Caribbean — one of the largest drug busts on record. Navy Lt. Maarten Hilbrandie says the drug's estimated street value is €210 million (US$310 million). Hilbrandie says the ship was singled out in international waters south of Puerto Rico and boarded early Tuesday morning. He says the U.S. Coast Guard personnel, who cooperate with the Dutch in patrolling the region, searched the ship and found the drugs. Hilbrandie said Thursday the ship's crew has been detained for questioning. The ship was sailing from Venezuela and bound for Europe with a load of 'fishmeal,' which turned out to contain the cocaine.
