France has set several mechanisms in motion to favor the release of Ingrid Betancourt and other people in the hands of the guerrilla Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC).
Official sources reiterated the government ó does not exclude any formula ó that allows for the release of French-Colombian Ingrid Betancourt, who seems to be in delicate health condition.
President Nicolas Sarkozy yesterday held telephone conversations with Presidents Hugo Chavez, Venezuela, and Alvaro Uribe, Colombia, but details of the talks were not revealed.
However, it is believed Sarkozy told Chavez and Uribe about the initiative to send a French humanitarian mission near the zones where the FARC command retaining Betancourt might be based.
The two-member French delegation is expected to leave for Colombia today or tomorrow, according to governmental sources.
It was revealed from Bogota that Uribe had welcomed the French initiative, and said that once the coordinates of the French group be known, military operations in the area would be suspended.
Meanwhile, French Prime Minister Francois Fillon proposed granting the political refugee status to the FARC members who might be released by the Colombian government in return for Ingrid Betancourt.
