Venezuela provides financial backing Danny Glover film
Venezuelan lawmakers are donating US$19.7 million to back an independent movie directed by actor Danny Glover, a supporter of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez. The National Assembly on Wednesday approved US$9.8 million for «Toussaint,» a film about Haitian rebel leader Toussaint Louverture, after previously approving US$9.9 million. The most recent funding was announced on the Assembly's Web site. The movie will be produced by Glover's independent company Louvertoure Films with support from the Cinema Villa, Venezuela's state film studio. Louvertoure Films produces movies of «historical relevance, social purpose, commercial value and artistic integrity,» according to the company's Web site. Ricardo Sanguino, president of the National Assembly's finance committee, said the funds are part of a US$230 million package intended to aid educational and cultural projects. The latest funding will come from Venezuela bond sale proceeds.

Even tho' the value of U.S. liberals to the venezuelan revolution is kinda iffy (Glover supports Barack Obama, for instance), it will be a great advance for humankind when -- not if -- this film gets made (but I'd make quite certain that no part of this project can be sabotaged beyond salvage, if I were these people... The Empire is gunning for them. Literally. You can't buy enough insurance here!)
ReplyDeleteJust don't listen to any of the selfish idiots who try to find any jackass reason why this project is a waste of money, etc. -- tho' I think the producers should try very hard to spend some of their production dollars in Ayiti itself, no matter how difficult or non-"cost-effective" that would be. You don't have to spend all the money there, eh? The ayisyen people need some input here, if only for political reasons.
And let's hope this is the greatest revolutionary film since "Burn!". And if it isn't -- so what then? On to the next great revolutionary film! Practice makes perfect. Naysayers be damned.
