Chávez orders withdrawal of Colombian consul in Maracaibo

A recording between Carlos Galvis Fajardo, Colombian consul in Maracaibo, and presidential advisor José Obdulio Gaviria, regarding the past elections in Venezuela, has brought both countries to the verge of a new diplomatic crisis. Chávez accuses Galvis of destabilizing the Venezuelan government, after Galvis is heard talking, in the conversation transmitted by Venezuela's state-sponsored television channel, about two opposition leaders. The Colombian government accepted Galvis' resignation.
