Venezuelan Customs & Excise officer does a bunk with close on $100 million stashed in suitcases...

VHeadline Venezuela News reports: A Customs & Excise inspector at Caracas' main Simon Bolivar international airport at Maiquetia is being sought by Venezuelan police forces after disappearing with Bs.F 210 million (US$97,797,233) stashed in suitcases on an internal flight to southwestern Tachira State, close to Venezuela's border with Colombia.

CICPC (detective branch) police commissioner, Pedro Requena, says the customs officer was detained briefly by airport security after they noticed contents of his luggage and questioned where the money had come from and what he was doing with it. Described in police reports only as a 29-year-old IRS/Seniat employee who had only been on the job for a month, he had been able to temporarily allay suspicions and was allowed to board the flight.

When the 29-year-old failed to turn up for work at Caracas Simon Bolivar International airport on Wednesday, the police and special prosecutors were alerted. He is now the subject of a belated all-ports alert on possible charges of theft, fraud and/or illegal enrichment.
