Caracas Daily Journal (Jeremy Morgan): The ruling United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) began paying off its debt to the National Electoral Council (CNE) for logistical help during the primary elections in the selection of candidates for the regional elections.
PSUV Vice President Alberto Muller Rojas announced that Bs.F.232,000 had been paid in a first installment due to the CNE and that three similar payments would be made. "We hope that at the moment of the elections on November 23 we will have complied with all the obligations we've acquired up to now and those we will have to acquire as a product of the campaign that is going to be made from the month of August as the law requires," he said.
The PSUV has looked to its members to come up with the funds needed to pay off the CNE and finance the campaign. They have been asked to contribute 10 percent of their incomes, and the PSUV has also sold "party bonds" to raise money.
"We've been careful about complying with the constitutional and legal requirements, as well as the financial ones," Muller Rojas said.
