State oil corporation Petroleos de Venezuela (PDVSA)
is to start a drilling program in Bolivia during early August, using a rig that is now being transported to the neighboring country. The aim of the program will be to boost reserve estimates for natural gas and condensates.

The finance committee at the National Assembly (AN) is to propose that legislation be drawn so that money is returned to people over-charged by fraudulent car salesmen. "The bank and the concessionaire will have to explain why a credit was approved for an amount if the price of the vehicle is otherwise," said Deputy Elvis Amoroso.

Barrio Adentro, President Hugo Chavez' program of providing health services to people in poor districts, completed its fifth birthday on Wednesday. Officials say that 6,569 "primary attention" centers, 409 integral diagnosis centers, 495 rehabilitation rooms, and 18 high technology centers have been founded under the program.

A group of employees gathered outside the Social Security Ministry to demand a new set of work norms and pay raises for employees and pensioners. Health Minister Jesus Mantilla said their demands would be responded to "in the context of the law."

In Merida, three employees are reported to have occupied a television station at the Universidad de los Andes for the last eight months, barring fellow employees from entering the studios. They want formal employment instead of work contracts and vow to stay there until their demands are met.

The Metropolitan Police (PM) has detained in flagrancy several people who had forged money, dollars and bolivars, after two special procedures carried out by this police body as part of the Plan of Citizen Security Caracas Segura 2008. The information comes from the general director of the Metropolitan Police, Wilmer Flores Trossel, at a press conference in the headquarters of the PM.
