VHeadline commentarist Kenneth T. Tellis writes: The reports of the Russians building an air base in Cuba for their long range bombers have got the United States government in a tizzy.
While the United States has spoken out against such a move by the Russians they do not mention the fact that they have air bases around the world and are building a Missile Shield around Russia itself, which in effect circles their country.
So, whether the United States likes it or not this is to all intents and purposes a Mexican Stand Off ... but somehow the US does not get the message.
If the United States has a right to build bases around the world then so do the Russians...
Of course, as usual, the United States wants to play by two different sets of rules, one for the US another for the Russians.
Of course, the first thing the US government did was to bring up the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962 ... but this issue is no way similar to it, for the simple reason that the US already has bases that encircle Russia and is also building a Missile Shield around Russia, Russia’s only defense therefore is retaliation.
Of course, if Russia were to build bases in Cuba, Venezuela, Ecuador, Nicaragua, Uruguay and/or Brazil, that would be a threat like no other to the United States mainland.
Perhaps, the Americans thought that they were going to have it all their own way, till the present situation arose. Now the United States will see what can happen if it attempts to attack any other country, with Russian bases surrounding its very heartland.
It looks like the United States is in a jam and there is no way out of this one, because it has all the markings of a Mexican Stand off.

Venezuela is facing the most difficult period of its history with honest reporters crippled by sectarianism on top of rampant corruption within the administration and beyond, aided and abetted by criminal forces in the US and Spanish governments which cannot accept the sovereignty of the Venezuelan people to decide over their own future.
