Message to Mibam Minister Rodolfo Sanz: "No more deceit ... enough is enough ... we need answers!"

VHeadline Venezuela News reports:
Small-scale and artesanal gold miners in the Raul Leoni municipality in La Paragua, southern Bolivar State, say they're tired of waiting for central government to deliver in a situation only made worse by a complete lack of response from the Basic Industries & Mining (Mibam) ministry on undertakings to pay compensation owed to them from a failed realignment of the mining industry two years ago.

Miners representative Alfredo Villanueva says "our patience is exhausted, there's no peaceful resolution, we're tired of the same old excuses. Minister Rodolfo Sanz must give us na definietive deadline to be paid what belongs to us ... they have just kept on deceiving us, the only thing they have achieved is misery for the local people."

In the middle of April (now three months ago!) Sanz said that he had apoken with President Chavez and promised the accrued payments to all of the miners who were "cheated" during the last two years ... although no definitive amount had been agreed, Mibam officials had hinted that the evicted miners would receive at between Bs.F 10,000 and Bs.F 15,000 each.

"But all that we have been fed is lie after lie, since nobody -- even the Environment Ministry (MinAmb) which had been in charge of the re-alignment -- has responded other than with further abuse from the military at TO-5 who have been less than cicumspect in delivering humanitarian aid to us."

Villanueva says he had had to raise a motion in the National Assembly (AN) to resolve the precarious situation: "I've already had a hearing with the AN's Commission for Social Development of the Assembly ... the funds are already there in Caracas but Mibam and MinAmb are still delaying the payments ... we want no more deceit ... La Paragua is dying and we have no water, we're in danger of supplies being cut off and the road is very bad ... enough is enough, we need answers!"
