VHeadline Venezuela News reports: Visiting El Callao last week to finalize details of labor and social committments assumed by the Russians in the Agapov Group's takeover of USA-Idaho-based Hecla Mining's operations in Venezuela under a 50/50 joint venture, Basic Industries & Mining (Mibam) Minister Rodolfo Sanz expressed his unreserved backing for former Venezuelan Guayana Corporation (CVG) president, Francisco Rangel Gomez -- who is the encumbent Bolivar State Governor -- of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) candidate for the State Governorship.
Rangel Gomez -- who had been instrumental in achieving an exclusive operator contract with the Canadian Crystallex International Corporation (KRY) to to mine for gold at the giant Las Cristinas site near El Callao -- had also helped Sanz in the run-up to last week's announcement of the deal with Agapov's Russoro Mining after the CVG's Minerven had failed to reach agreement and decided to pull the plug on all further negotiations with Hecla to re-assign two mines to Russoro under a social-production contract with the Russians.
Under last week's deal, some 14,000 hectares have been set aside for controlled small-scale mining activities while Mibam and MinAmb officials attempt to agree terms this week on how to proceed with Las Cristinas a nearby Las Brisas del Cuyuni to guarantee some 10,000 direct jobs and many thousands of secondary employment opportunities which will undoubtedly aid Governor Rangel Gomez' PSUV re-election bid.
