Colombian hostage Ingrid Betancourt vows to become country's president

Ingrid Betancourt, the Colombian politician rescued after six years in captivity, was reunited with her children as she vowed to become the country's president and free the remaining hostages held by Marxist rebels. As a jet carrying her son and daughter from France stopped on the runway at Bogota's military airport, Miss Betancourt raced up the steps which were propped against the fuselage so that when the door finally opened her children simply fell into her arms. But even amid the emotion of seeing Melanie, 22, and Lorenzo, 19, Miss Betancourt, a presidential candidate when she was kidnapped, remained the consummate politician. With at least 25 political hostages and hundreds of Colombians still being held for ransom by the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (Farc), she said their release had become her new mission.
