The Governor of (western) Zulia State, Manuel Rosales, has criticized the distribution of wealth in Venezuela considering its wealth in oil. Rosalez says that this will be one of the spearheads of his re-election campaign: "Our people live under the worst conditions, there is great injustice in the distribution of our Venezuelan wealth, and that's what the people are complaining."
The opposition leader, who was defeated by President Hugo Chavez in the last presidential elections, explains that he believes Venezuela will someday come to distribute its riches fairly, but in the meantime "what good does oil, gold and coal serve us if our people get poorer every day? Many children have to go out onto the streets to beg or to work in a country as rich as this ... yet, elsewhere, they think that we in Venezuela live 'with cups of gold'."
Recalling that the State capital, Maracaibo, was founded 479 years, Rosales said that "the expression of a people who looks to revolutionary change was always be painted in our sky ... and it is the change that with great pride and passion for Zulia and Maracaibo that I want to bring back to the most beautiful city in Venezuela."
