In a military first certain to raise eyebrows in the United States, Russia will carry out joint naval maneuvers in the Americas with Venezuela, the Venezuelan navy said Saturday. Four Russian ships with almost 1,000 sailors aboard will carry out joint maneuvers with the navy of Caracas' leftist government in Venezuelan territorial waters November 10-14, the navy said in a statement. 'This is of great importance because it is the first time it is being done' in the Americas, Venezuela's navy joint chiefs strategic intelligence director, Rear Admiral Salbatore Cammarata Bastidas, said in a statement obtained by AFP.

Finally the hens are coming home to roost.
ReplyDeleteWhat the U.S. wrongly believed was its own preserve (South America), is now being put to the test. With the Russian-Venezuelan naval manoeuvres being carried out between November 10-14, will come the end of an era when the U.S. Navy was paramount in South America.
It will now show that the Russians can openly operate in the U.S's. own backyard and that puts a new spin on what can happen any time in the future. Remember, the good old days of U.S. dominance in Latin America are over, and there is nothing that the U.S. can do about it.
