Globovision quotes extra-official sources saying Interior & Justice (MIJ) Minister Ramon Rodriguez Chacin is about to be sacked!

According to reports just broadcast on opposition Globovision 24/7 TV news, and quoting extra-official sources, President Hugo Chavez Frias is about to sack Interior & Justice (MIJ) Minister Ramon Rodriguez Chacin.

An official announcement is expected at any time with further details but the rumor has been rampant since the early hours of this Monday morning after a press conference the Minister had announced was suspended with immediate effect.

Globovision reporter, Beatriz Adrian, who is claiming the exclusive, says that two sources have confirmed the dismissal and it appears that it may be linked to the weekend capture of former Colombian government minister Alvaro Araujo Noguera on an arrest warrant requested by the US Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA).

Venezuelan authorities captured Araujo Noguera last Thursday on a fugitive warrant on charges of conspiring with paramilitaries to kidnap a reputed political rival.

He was detained by Venezuela's National Guard while in a vehicle in the western city of Maracaibo, according to Colombian Ambassador Fernando Marin in Caracas. Noguera (75) was taken to Caracas and plans were already afoot to return him to Colombia before the DEA stepped in.
