Problematic Diamond Prospecting Community to Benefit from Social Projects in Angola
Allafrica.com quotes Angola’s Deputy Minister of Geology and Mining, Makenda Ambroise, as saying that communities carrying out illegal diamond mining on the border between Angola and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) will benefit from social projects with the intention of improving their living conditions. The social project, which is being initiated by Belgium, will cover communities in Sierra Leone and on the border between Venezuela and Brazil. The initial results of the project will be analyzed at a seminar scheduled for next September in South Africa. The deputy minister also noted that Angola, as the coordinator of the diamond alluvium group, presented a report at the recent Kimberley Process meetings regarding the production of alluvium diamonds in Africa and worldwide.
