CUPW? Letters to and from Canada that bear the address of Robert Mugabe, Kim Jong-il, Mahmoud Ahmedinejad or Hugo Chavez?

UPW Won't Boycott Israel 'As ofyet,' April 30 I'm not sure what I find more disturbing, the fact that Denis Lamelin, the national president of theCanadian Union of Postal Workers(CUPW), has declared himself Hamas's defacto ambassador in Canada or the fact that the postal union has such ill-informed leaders. I'd be willing to bet that CUPW will continue to have no qualms about dispatching and delivering letters to and from Canada that bear the address of Robert Mugabe, Kim Jong-il, Mahmoud Ahmedinejad or Hugo Chavez.

I hope CUPW members will see this outrage for what it is and publicly condemn the stand that their union leadership has taken. I know that I'll be having a chat with my local postal carrier today

  1. RE: “The politics of mail delivery,” in the National Post by Michael Ross of Victoria, BC. I fail to see any connection between the CUPW and the delivery of letters to Robert Mugabe, Kim Jong-il, Maumoud Ahmadinejad and Hugo Rafael Chavez Frias of Venezuela.

It has become a common practice to run down leaders of countries that do not agree with the politics of the U.S., Canada and whatever. Why would CUPW not continue to deliver mail to any country? After all it is still Canada Post is it not? Thus they are in the job of mail DELIVERY and that is a service that they provide to Canada’s public. Their political views like Michael Ross' are a private matter, unless of course Michael Ross now wants everyone to vote the way he does in the next election. Other than that Michael Ross is totally out of line, in assuming that only he has a viewpoint.

If the President of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) Denis Lamelin, has a political viewpoint, he is entitled to that as much as any other citizen is he not? So, Michael Ross is now taking it upon himself to decide what political views CUPW President Denis Lamelin can hold, that is what smacks of dictatorship. So Michael Ross please cross the border if you really want to feel at home, because they do have a dictator in the White House right now, and do not wait too long because by January next Obama Hussein Barack will be taking over from George W. Bush.

    Sincerely,
