Only bankruptcy offers the world the ultimate hope of liberation from the corporate empire!

VHeadline's Washington DC-based commentarist Chris Herz writes:
23 members of the United States Senate and 133 members of the US House of Representatives, at great political and even some personal risk in those days just after the Army had attacked with anthrax the leaders of the liberal Democrats, voted against Bush's War. The new president, Barack Obama has not seen fit to appoint one single one to his administration. Quite the contrary, he is known to ridicule and disparage in private conversations the peace-wing (some call it the Democratic wing) of his own Democratic Party.

The records of the people he has appointed to foreign policy roles, beginning with his new Secretary of State (in the USA, Foreign Minister) Hillary Clinton suggest a level of bellicose confrontation even in excess of that with which President Bush began his government eight years ago.

One of the most important, his new White House chief of staff, Rahm Emmanuel was
even at one time a serving soldier in the Israel Defense Forces and still enjoys dual citizenship. Obama, taking an even more strident pro-Isreal line than Bush's suggests that Jerusalem become wholly Israeli.

The US elites remain totally as ever committed to more war in the middle east as their preferred method of international relations.

Much is being made of the new security treaty between the USA (worthless, for it will never be submitted for ratification to the US Senate, as is required by our constitutional law!) and its strictures against the use of Iraqi territory for the launching of attacks against Iran. Quite aside from the fact that covert attacks using CIA and ethnic dissidents from within that country are on-going at this very moment, the undertakings and the promises of the criminals who govern in Washington are worthless. The moment it becomes convenient to assault the Iranians, that is what we will do.

In fact, the whole world needs here the reminder that in exchange for the peaceful liberation from the USSR of East Germany and of the other states of Eastern Europe explicit guarantees were given President Gorbachev by Secretary of State James Baker, speaking officially for our President Reagan, that the USA would never support the eastward expansion of the NATO alliance. It is the utterly cynical repudiation of their own guarantee by the corrupt policy elites here, that lies at the heart of the controversies now so evident between Russia and the USA. Any nation taking assurances from Washington as the basis of its policy should immediately dismiss from public office all officials willing to take the word of liars crooks and killers.

But there is good news to be found mixed in with the bad. And that is until some one or more of the mega-corporations objects some gestures toward environmental sanity may be permitted. Certainly it will no longer be possible to dismiss from their employment government scientists for doing their jobs. And then clearly we may contrast with the Bush government the weakness of this new, incoming one. This will be helpful.

Bush "hit the ground running" ignoring bipartisanship, good taste and good manners alike from his first days in office. A minority president, he made the most conservative, even reactionary appointments and policy choices, AND in the last days of his government continues without check to pack the Federal bureaucracy with his crazies and corrupt the laws and regulations with the most bizarre of interpretations. Obama has shown already that he must rule the US state with Republican policies and even with Republican personnel.

Well for him that he seems content to do so.

But best of all, the massive financial bleeding-out of the carcass of the liberal state will continue unchecked, now totalling 8.3 trillions and rising.

It is that and only that bankruptcy which offers the world ultimate hope of liberation from the corporate empire.

From the imperial capital
