Venezuela's Energy & Mines Committee planning to enlist support from Environment, Defense and Basic Industries & Mining (Mibam) ministries

VHeadline Venezuela News reports: Venezuela's Parliamentary Standing Committee on Energy & Mines says it is planning to enlist the support of the Environment (MinAmb), Defense (MinDef) and Basic Industries & Mining (Mibam) ministries to resolve "various situations that are being presented" in relating to mining interests in southeastern Bolivar State.

Committee chairman, Angel Rodriguez stressed that a timeframe will be established in coordination with AN speaker, Cilia Flores and the ministers involved, to studying the mining situation in Bolivar State, giving comprehensive treatment to mining issues ... not only with reference to social security and other payments to local miners, but the problems of security and defence, environment and social problem that are being generated within the mining sector.

He added that it is important to remember that the mining conversion plan was generated to avoid further damaging to rivers and tributaries from which drinking water is taken and to avoid the deterioration of waterflows on the Rio Caroni and Rio Paragua as well as to the Guri hydroelectric dam.

"Action must be taken to curb pollution levels generating in the use of mercury in the exploitation of gold and other atrocities that are happening in the area as regards deforestation and environmental problem."
