Crystallex International issues 'open letter' to lobby support from locals to keep the Las Cristinas Project intact

VHeadline Venezuela News reports: Nueva Prensa de Guayana headlines "Las Cristinas Project remains intact" in today's issue, reporting that Crystallex International has sent an open letter to communities adjacent to the Las Cristinas project seeking support to make the Las Cristinas project viable through "a solid and united front to be heard by the appropriate authorities" to permit a resumption of a progressive process alreadsy approved by disparate government agencies.

The Canadian gold mining company, which holds a contract to mine at Las Cristinas has significantly satisfied a Ministry of the Environment (MinAmb) request for payment of a Performance Bond for construction of the plant and the appropriate environmental taxes establised by the same authority.

Crystallex says that from the outset, it has honoured the agreed commitment to protect and preserve the environment of areas under its control and to reduce environmental damage. The company, which is charged with the extraction of the Las Cristinas gold reserves also mentions that, since its introduction to Venezuela it has committed to social programs and for more than five years has strengthened neighboring communities and complied fully and timely with all condictions without a single bolivar of income from Las Cristinas.

This, Crystallex says, has adequately demonstrated how the company has been fully committed to local communities, making significant investments for social benefit, taking into consideration the socio-economic realities of the people close to Las Cristinas. To date, the company has built major works, such as the asphalting of a road leading from the (Venezuela-Brazil) Interstate Highway 10 to the Santo Domingo neighborhood at Las Cristinas, as well as other local roads. There is a new hospital outpatient building at Las Claritas, with provision for all medical and hospital services, a water treatment plant has been constructed for drinking water and operations on another two have been accelerated as well as the building of low-cost housing.

The open letter ends with Crystallex ratifying its public commitment to employees, the community, shareholders and other investors, in defense of their rights and interests and an undertaking that the company will continue to act within the law.
