United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) replace Yaracuy state Governor Carlos Gimenez

Caracas Daily Journal (Jeremy Morgan): The gossip mill went into overdrive as Yaracuy state Governor Carlos Gimenez' political fate hung in the balance over the weekend. Officially, or at least according to the ruling United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), it's all over for him, he's part of history, Yesterday's Man, so to speak, as somebody or other once remarked to their eternal regret.

The PSUV is reported to have decided to replace Gimenez as governor. The chosen one, it's said, is Alex Sanchez, a former head of the state branch of the Housing Ministry in Yaracuy -- and, of course, a member of the party.

The decision -- which doesn't actually belong to the party but to the voters who elected Gimenez in the first place -- will be formally rubber-stamped by a vote in the Yaracuy state legislature some time this week.

Gimenez' goose is deemed to have been cooked from the moment the National Assembly (AN) ruled that he bore "political responsibility" for corruption in his administration. Seven others are also under suspicion.
