Venezuela will summon the US ambassador to explain an alleged violation of its airspace by a US military plane, the country's foreign minister said Monday.
The US Navy plane was detected in Venezuelan airspace near the Caribbean island of La Orchila on Saturday, and the plane was contacted by radio, Defense Minister Gen. Gustavo Rangel Briceno said.
Foreign Minister Nicolas Maduro said US Ambassador Patrick Duddy will be called in to discuss the matter. 'We will ask for an explanation.'
Asked about the accusation, US Embassy spokeswoman Robin Holzhauer said: 'We're looking into any possible accidental incursion of Venezuelan airspace.''
Venezuelan officials raised the incident at a news conference where they also expressed concern about an alleged incursion of Colombian troops.

An accidental incursion into Venezuelan air spece by a U.S. Navy plane sounds almost like the accidental incursion of Soviet air space by Francis Gary powers in his U@ spy plane in 1961, does it not?
ReplyDeleteThe so-called accidents by the U.S. Navy and Air Force are becoming very common are they not? Perhaps because they are being directed by the Pentagon to do so.
