Venezuela's high court rejects IACHR judgment on dismissed judges
The Supreme Tribunal of Justice (TSJ) rejected a judgment by the Inter-American Court on Human Rights (IACHR) seeking reinstatement of three Venezuelan judges, judicial sources reported. In addition to considering that enforcement of the IACHR sentence "would harm fundamental constitutional principles and values and could lead to an institutional chaos," the TSJ claimed that the IACHR "usurped functions," AFP reported. The judgment of the IACHR intends to "ignore the res judicata of the decision to dismiss these former judges" and is an "unacceptable intervention in governance and administration of the Judiciary," said the TSJ in a ruling. The TSJ added that an international treaty must be respected "as long as it does not violate the supreme law of the nation," that is the Constitution.
