More than 2 million Venezuelans out of poverty in ten years of revolution

During the ten years of Revolutionary Government, an amount of 2 million 733 thousand 108 Venezuelans have come out of poverty, stated the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Hugo Chávez Frías.

The statement was issued on Tuesday during the presentation of his annual report to the National Parliament, where he explained that just in 2008 437,317 people came out of that situation, it is to say, around 1,198 Venezuelans per day and 50 comrades per hour. He emphasized that with the Bolivarian Revolution, poverty decreased progressively, so much that “the 30% level is being broken.”

However, Chavez expressed that overall poverty in the last decade of the fourth republic placed in 71.6% (1993) and 75.5% (1995). Figures evidence that out of 100 people in Venezuela 71.6 and 75.5, respectively, were in that condition. Furthermore, he affirmed that the progress has been more positive with regards to extreme poverty. According to him, that condition reached 42% in the nineties, a figure that started to drop relevantly under the administration of the Bolivarian Government until it placed in 9.1%.

“It means that during the ten years of the Bolivarian Revolution, 2 million 196 thousand 392 comrades came out of extreme poverty and in 2008, 94 thousand 030 people did so,” he added.
