The United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) starts Friday a second round of signature gathering to favor the constitutional amendment aimed at making possible the continuous re-election of public posts.
The mobilization will be in force until January 13 and the signatures collected will be delivered to the National Assembly to be discussed, and if approved as expected, they will be voted on. The request, initially to allow the continuous election of the Head of State, was extended this week for governors, mayors, deputies and regional legislators.
In the first collection of signatures held in December, the PSUV got over 4.7 million signatures, an unprecedented figure in the country's political history, which is expected to be surpassed this time.
Several leaders led by President Hugo Chavez will compile information from other four million of Venezuelans in favor of the initiative that will change five articles of the Constitution.
The National Electoral Council of Venezuela (CNE) approved Thursday rules for the participation of groups of citizens and organizations with national political purposes in the virtual approving referendum. The decision was already applied in the 2004 revocation referendum against Chavez, in the end easily won by the forces supporting the Socialist Revolution he leads since 1999.
