U.S. filmmaker Oliver Stone accompanied Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez on a tour of the state and town where the latter was born as part of the groundwork for shooting a documentary about the head of state.
Chavez and Stone visited the town of Sabaneta in Barinas state where the president was born 54 years ago and together they visited some of its streets. The president made use of the trip to that state at the foot of the Andes to inaugurate a corn-processing plant and visit a livestock-production center specializing in animal genetics.
The press office at the presidential palace provided photos of Chavez and Stone together but offered no details on what they talked about or how the documentary is progressing.
The first indication that Stone was planning a work on Chavez appeared in the Hollywood press last month. Stone told Variety at the time that his next work would focus on Chavez and the rise of leftist politicians in South America in recent years.
